Well, all the recent discussion on copper got me very worried. After reading a few posts today something dawned on me. I have been using the same 5 gallon buckets that I use to change the quarantine water to fill the top off reservoir etc etc. Basically I have been using the same buckets with all of my tanks. After I realized this I frantically searched RC looking for answers. There seems to be mixed responses to this issue. All of my inverts in both tanks seem to be doing great but that doesnt mean the water isnt infected with copper now. I am going out to buy a testkit for copper tomorrow.
However, in one particular post a poster mentioned that any equipment used during copper treatment should not be used ever again in a tank with inverts or liverock. This worries me because I used a few pumps in my quarantine tank that I normally use to mix saltwater. Also I used a salinity monitor that I share amongst all the tanks. When I searched for cleaning methods many people suggested muratic acid and bleach. I just need to be sure these chemicals wont harm probes and pumps. I have plans on using some vinnegar and bleach to clean all of the equipment and buckets. Do you think this will clean the copper out?
Any insight and comments are welcome.
