i have a tank that has had copper in it in the past is there any way to use it as a reef now. the tank has been empty for 2 years

I may be wrong, but I think it absorbs in the silicone and could be released back into the tank?

The safe answer is no, you cannot use it.

That said, I personally have trouble believing that the silicone can possibly hold enough copper to cause problems if you start with fresh water, rock, and sand... especially if you run carbon in the first few months you have the tank up. If the rock/sand was in a tank treated with copper, then I'd say you better ditch all of that stuff.

It also depends on what type of copper treatment that was used. I used to run copper in my 55 and it's been a reef for the past 4 years.

the rock and sand has never been treated with copper. i guess the silicone is all i have to worry about. i may try it out and then test the water.
