copper question

my 2 only fish have whitespot,after some reading i am convinced that copper is the only way to go(maybe im wrong)i can set up a small quarantine tank dose with copper and move the fish in there and keep them for 8 weeks.the question is how to deal with ammonia in the new tank..i can move filter media from one tank to the other and cycle the tank quickly but does copper kill filter bacteria?

water changes will deal with the ammonia. just have to make sure to treat the new change water with the copper as well.
