ok, I will sum this up as best as I can but be as thorough as I can:
I have a 55 gal. tank and had it set up about 6 months and all basic parameters are good - nitrates about 4ppm or less, no amonia, no nitrites, salinity i kept at .25, temp around 78 consistantly, 60 lbs fiji live rock.
after having a yellow tail damsel, a black domino damsel, I introduced a yellow tang that i had in a quarantine tank but still put ich into the tank. I assume it was the tang because I never had ich yet and the next day after putting it into the display tank I seen those nice white ich spots.
Being the first time with ich and first time with a saltwater tank, I'm no pro in dealing with it, so I dosed with copper sulfate after the coralline algea was really taking hold. I found out afterwareds to not dose copper sulfate because it stays in the substrate and I can't get it out of the live rock.
After i took out all the substrate and all the LR and completely drained out the tanks water and wiped it dry with paper towels, I filled it back up with brand new argonite substrate (and chose a MUCH thinner bed depth) and filled it with RODI water and got the salinity and etc set to the proper levels.
Now, a few days later, I just introduced the hermits to the tank, & they needed new shells, so my girlfriend (not knowing) dipped the new empty hermit shells into the small bowel of water to rinse them off, that I used as a quick fresh water dip for the hermits before i put them into the display tank, that had a small amount of copper sulfate in it to help kill any ich that might be on them.
There was only about 5 drops of copper sulfate in about 16 ounces of water, and I am not sure of any exact amount of copper sulfate that might (and I am sure) did get back into the display tank.
Do I need to drain the whole tank again because of this tiny amount that probably got into water. I was going to be buying 60 lbs of live rock this week (totally cured from a friends tank he is tearing down) but I dont want to buy all this LR if it's only going to die and not grow any corraline again because of the copper sulfate.
Am I ok or is this tiny amount of copper sulfate that I am sure is in the water going to make me have to drain out all the water again and get all new substrate again. Is this tiny amount - about 1 drop in 55 gal water - ok or am I screwed and I have to start all over again.
Thanks in advance for reading this lengthy post and help.
