Coppersafe and Salifert Copper Test Kit

I'm in the process of treating my 300 gallon FOWLR system. I followed the recommended dosage. I tested using a Salifert Test Kit and it shows me a level of 1.0.

Did some researching and found that with chelated copper, the treatment level should be 1.5 - 2.0.

I am about to add more coppersafe to try to increase the level of copper. My question is the Salifert an accurate test kit to use with Coppersafe?

Thanks.

My experience with CUsafe has not been good.

But I think you can estimate your CuSafe level, as it is a lot more stable than straight Cu. What you add is want you get, for quite a while, long enough for treatment, generally. Estimating the water volume is better.

I never use CuSafe again. I use straight Cu. Its instability in calcareous material is also an asset. It is actually predictable enough.

thanks for the reply. I've used coppersafe before last year when i first got my achilles tang and noticed he started getting ich. I think i treated early enough that it worked.

late wed night, my main pump completely failed. So, the tank was running for 6 hrs with just 1 tunze stream 6100 before i was able to put in a new return pump. since it was a quick fix with whatever parts i had in the wee hrs of the morning, i had to redo it this past weekend. that meant another 6 hrs without the main pump. sunday night i noticed my achilles, powder blue tang, and blue throat trigger were severely covered with ICH.

treated coppersafe sunday night and levels continue to measure between 1.0 - 2.0 with the salifert test kit. the fish are looking better as i think the ICH is in the phase of falling off the fish. that's why i'm trying hard to make sure to keep copper levels at 1.5 to 2.0 especially when the 2nd bout of swarmmers happens. i also have to keep an eye out for infection as the fish were completely covered with ICH. just glad they still all eat like pigs.
