One of the companies that sells frags online warns not to use putty adhesive but only gel cyanoacrylate. Does anyone know why the putty is objectionable? Sometimes the gel superglue is particularly awkward. thanks.

Because the epoxy can sometimes cause tissue loss at the point of contact which could result in the loss of the whole frag.

Try the epoxy/super glue method instead.

Is it common practice to use a two part epoxy? I've always wondered, as that may work better on larger peices being held to the rockwork.

I have found that using both works best for me. I can never glue a large frag with just superglue alone. I usually take a ball of 2 part epoxy and apply superglue gel to both sides.. The superglue dries quickly and holds giving time for the epoxy to cure. I read that tip on RC somewhere awhile back.

Anyway, I hate using epoxy because it makes my skimmer go nuts for a couple of weeks. Yeah, it does sometimes cause some tissue loss so make sure to not have epoxy or superglue on the fingers that are holding the frag in place.

Epoxy produces alot of heat when its curing, so that alone could cause tissue loss if it touches the frag.
