Coral Agression

I'm not sure I understood coral aggression well. As a matter fact I never read about it. I have an LPS tank with some SPS in it as well.

From time to time my Torch coral, or my hammer dispose some weird slime "strings". Those string stick out from the coral for a while and then they break away and swim around. Is that aggression? Or the aggression is from touching only.

Seems like a stupid question, but I never came across this. Last few days I started to lose my Elegance coral, so I'm trying to figure things out.

sounds more like stress :) is it happening during water changes, and also, don't put a hammer/torch near others. bad news every time!

If the strings are brown it's poop or zooxanthellae. If the strings are white "spider web" looking things that are digesting neighboring corals, that is aggression. Also make sure the tentacles of your torch or hammer corals are not coming in contact with other corals in the tank.

The strings were brown. This time it happened without any physical stress, but I have seen the corals behave like that when I move them, or when I add brand new corals.
