Coral Auto-Feeding???

Hey everyone,

I'm about to start dosing our frag tank with a 2 part solution and have two heads left open on the doser.

I'm curious what/if any foods could be used to automatically feed the coral in the tank.

The tank is fishless with only inverts and coral in it.

Kind of a QT/Frag/Grow Out tank for inverts and coral.

Thanks!

At Steinhart Aquarium they use dosers to feed live food from insulated jugs that have a frozen water bottle inside to keep the food refrigerated. They dose live Rotifers, brine, and spirulina I think.

Oyster feast phytofeast and roti feast... I know a guy who had a mini fridge with holes drilled in the back and ran the dosing tubing through... he broadcast fed and had some amazing looking growth and colonies. Go slow depending on your methods of nutrient removal.

Would keeping it cold matter for foods like Coral Frenzy?

Another avenue that has worked for me is to use an Eheim Automatic feeder. I've been using this for close to a year now without any problems. I feed decapsulated brine shrimp and Reefroids 3 times a night. The food is deposited into a small floating feeding station, then as it sinks it is spread throughout the tank by the Vortechs. I also feed the fish 3 times a day by the same means, and their food is dusted in Reefroids to also add a little coral food during the day.

Do you have a video? Would love to see it...

Yes, as well as pods and mysid shrimp. I find the Reef Roids and the Decapsulated brine shrimp are in a good micron range to feed the most types of coral while still being able to be carried by the power heads. If you choose to go this route I would start slowly until the system is able to handle the increased bio load.

Any info on the feeding station?

Is all the food dry?

Thanks!

Plan on letting the frag tank sit fallow for 3 months after the last wet thing was added to the tank.

Hopefully things like isopods and ich will burn out during that period.

OysterFeast and Shellfish Diet would be the foods I would feed to a fishless SPS tank like that. Keep the bottles in a refrigerator, and dose very small amounts to start with.
