Coral Banded/Blood Shrimps

I have heard of the aggressiveness of the coral banded shrimp (even catching/eating small fish) but not much about the blood shrimp. I have been seeing a lot of sand being kicked up lately behind my rockwork & notice the blood shrimp & CBS are back there. I can't really see what they are doing, but the BS keeps popping out. My arrow crab & 2 cleaners, in addition to many peppermint shrimps I have had in there are all missing. Are they the culprits, or one of them or not either? Do they fight between themselves???

As far as my knowledge from reading goes, the Blood Shrimp is a rather aggressive shrimp and I would not put one with Cleaner or Coral Banded shrimp, but they may be okay with Camel and Peppermint Shrimp (kinda hit or miss). I have seen Peppermints coexist peacefully with a Blood shrimp, but this was in a 500gal tank.....

Now the Coral Banded shrimp is a very aggressive and very territorial shrimp that I would not put with ANY other shrimp that I value, unless it was in a large tank.

The Arrow Crabs have been known to cause problems with other shrimp/crabs/small fish, as well.

Looks like you got yourself quite a mix there :) .

i had a coral banded and a cleaner in my reef before and the coral banded never hurt a thing
proably just depends if u get one with a good or bad temper

I have a pair of Blood Reds, a large coral banded, a Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (L amboinensis) & a few Peppermint Shrimp in my tank.

All of them are at least a year old and they seem to get along. They each have their home areas and cleaning stations, but they do move from time to time.

I think most of the inverts in our tanks are opportunistic preditors. They may not aggressively pursue killing and/or eating other tank mates, but will take advantage of feeding opportunities if something is sick or dead.

Of the listed shrimp, I've always thought the CBS were the most aggressive.

The coral banded shrimp is known to eat other shrimp. It made a meal out of my cleaner shrimp!!! So he got a one way ticket out!

THe coral banded shrimp isn't terribly unpredictable; it loves to eat fish. If it isn't nipping at my Clown, it likes eating goby.

the CBS in my parents 50g just kinda hangs upside down on this rock ledge, and occasionally will nip at a fish tail. I cant say i have actively seen it fighting with another fish

I have had 2 Blood Shrimp for 1.5 years ... never a problem with aggressiveness. They do like to steal the food away from corals that have been spot fed, but that's it.
