Coral Beauty, triggerfish, other cool fish

I want to get a coral beauty for a 55 gallon tank I will be starting in may so I'm doing my homework on them now. Ive seen that they are reef safe with caution. What will they eat? And how often does that happen that they will mess with the corals? Same thing with any other angel fish, and are there any triggerfish that are reef safe and could be put in a 55 tank? And any other nice looking reef safe fish for a 55 gallon tank suggestions would be nice. I really want a mandarin and am building my pod population in a 20 and 5 gallon tank til I can get my 55 up. Thanks

I had a Coral Beauty in my reef for a year or so with no issues at all, and it was about 4 years old when I purchased it. Due to aggression, it has been moved to my 55g mantis tank with fewer fish to bully...

Some people get lucky, and their CB never touches a thing. Some get lucky for a little while, and it's like a switch flips and they develop a taste for everything from sps to lps to leathers to clams, etc...

You never know. It's pretty much hit or miss with these fish. The only angels that are proven to be reef safe are the Genicanthus line...

None of the coral safe triggers would do well in a 55.

What are the chances do you think that a coral beauty would be okay in a reef tank? what would I do if it were to start eating corals? Thats what I thought about the triggerfish. Oh well. Is there any other pretty fish that are reef safe and okay for a 55

I have learned from experience to add angelfish of all kinds last in the tank. The are a very territorial fish. I got a coral beauty for one of my first fish and it killed my clowns. They are reef safe. A cool fish is a carpenter fairy wrasse or royal gramme. I have both and they are perfect. Angelfish are very tempting to get first but it is best to wait.

It would definitely be one of my last fish. I have 2 clowns, and a blue tang right now and I will be adding a mandarin and a few other fish and inverts as well so it would be one of the lasts if not the last. So I shouldn't worry about not getting one in fear that it will eat my corals?

There are tons of fish, but yes, many of the prettiest fish seem to be reef-hazardous.

Start at Live Aquaria. When you choose a category, sort by "Reef Compatible-yes".
