If you are talking about a Coral Beauty Angel 38 gallons is to small.

Am I missing something here? That is to small of a tank for an angel of any type. 55 is what I have seen as the outside minimum for tank size with a 50 being the drop dead cliff. A 38 is half of LA's recommended min. Please someone else chime in.

Sorry, 6 months is not very long at all. I would think the OP is pushing it. I would never consider putting one in a 29g.

My 125 is in the process of a build now.. But if he were to purchase a small coral beauty I do not believe it would be a problem as long as he planned on putting it in a larger tank when it develops more to ensure health of the fish.

Sorry again but I have to disagree. It's great you're on your way to a larger tank. But many times people say they plan to upgrade or in the process of but never do. So, plan to buy fish for the tank you have now. When and if someone gets that bigger tank then that's the time to b get that desired fish. No reason to rush to cram in fish.

You don't have to agree with me man that's the beauty of it. Everyone can try their own thing and share their experiences with others. That's why it's a forum.. Something you learn from and share experiences with.
You want an experience here it is. Had a 35 gallon reef lots of rock added a coral beauty( last fish) killed my royal gramma and harassed every other fish. Your tank is too small.

Heck, took me about 10 years to finally get my big tank upgrade up and running, 210. Can't imagine how many issues I would have had if I has stocked my tanks for this future tank.
As for a coral beauty in a 38, I personally pass. I currently have a coral beauty (( along with 2 other dwarfs )) in my 65. After seeing 2 different dwarfs move around my 210, I feel that the 3' 65 is too small for my coral beauty. Just looks cramped to me.
Should note, have had the coral beauty for at least 5 years now.
Midas blenny at the time and two clownfish. I do have a coral beauty in my 90 gallon at the moment an 0 aggression to any other fish and this time was added last.

I had a flame angel in a 55g once and it was pretty aggressive towards most all my fish if I remember right. I just remember it picking on a lot of the fish in there all the time. Unfortunately, I wasn't practicing any kind of QT and a battle of fluke and HLLE did it in.
I finally got up the nerve to try one again many years later and in a 180 this time. But I also found a stunning coral beauty with bold colors and a brilliant electric blue highlight around all the fins.
Its hasn't been very long at all but both went through QT together and introduced in the DT at the same time. Both ignore each other and everything else in the tank. But they are constantly pecking at the rocks. All of them. I knew they were grazers but didn't realize how much. If they don't have the space and rock to pick at I can see how they would feel threatened by that and be aggressive to protect what's there.

I am really glad some other folks came in here to say what I was trying to. I keep a Flame in a 65g which is about as small as I would say they can be comfortable. He minds his own business as long as my Flame wrasse doesn't flex at him (color similarities probably cause tension there).
I probably will re-home him not because he is to big (I got him full size) but when I want new inhabitants. I would not 'heavily' or 'over' stock with this fish present. He likes his space.

concur with above on tank size, had a 2.5" in a 29 when I started years ago, killed clowns and marine betta, upgraded to a 120, put the CB in there (about 4" at that point) never had another problem for about 8 years till I took the tank down with lots of other fish with him and smaller ones, they like some room and some rock
