Well I have coral beauty that has been with me for past few months and seems to be ok for the most part. I havent had any coral nipping and eats very well. The problem is its aggression towards the other fish. I want to see the progression of this since this seems to be new behavior as the fish ages..but if it gets to much worse then hes up for trade. Very nice vibrant colors great looking and curious fish.
Has anyone had issue's with coral beautys nipping at snails, brittle stars, hermits and any other invert or clean up crew member? I have noticed a decline in nass. snails astrea and hermits. Other day when feeding i noticed it nipped at the brittle but that could of been because the brittle had food. Not to mention all the nipped fins......:sad1:

What other fish do you have in the tank? Do you possibly have a hitch-hiker shrimp or crab as a possible culprit? IME, I haven't seen them go after inverts as much, but yes, they can be aggressive towards other fish. It all depends on the temperment of that particular fish and not all coral beauties.

I've had mine for about 2 years. He came from a tank with 25 other dwarf angels, so he learned to be a little feisty! My lfs rescued all of those angels when they went to do a tank cleaning. I think he killed my dottyback (not missing him a bit) but otherwise he ignores my other fish and inverts - except at feeding time. Then it is sort of Jekyll and Hyde. Any food is HIS!! All of my other fish (2 maroons and 2 firefish) are all capable of fending for themselves, but he thinks that my mushrooms are his dinner table. He won't take food from my frogspawn or coral, but sometimes will from my lobophyllia. Any crustacean even pods scare it to death, he won't approach anything that wiggles!

I guess this is just another case of "fish are individuals". . I have had my coral beauty for nearly 1 1/2 years. So she is deffinatly the oldest and biggest. She also is the owner of this tank since she has been in there longer than the other current residents.

Swims slowly and gracefully, swims gently near the clowns. Does some light chasing, it's hardly more than a "move outta my way" type thing. No nipping, no bullying. She just likes the other fish to know she's the boss.
