Hi I have had a war coral and maze coral for about 5 weeks maybe longer and they have been fine until the past week when I noticed white around the edges of them both can anyone help. uploadfromtaptalk1402484682912.jpguploadfromtaptalk1402484693102.jpg

water parameters?

do you dip your coral?

it looks like it is on the sand now, but was it always there? it could have been light shocked.

that looks like more than bleaching its all receded. looks like skeleton showing to me. Fluval LED as far as I know are not overly powerful so don't think its too much light but how big is tank? Distance to lights? Swings in alk can make faviids retract severely.

Watwr params are : ph 8.0
alk 7
ammonia 0.05
NO2 0.02
NO3 15
Salinity 1.023
I havent dipped them. They have always been on the sb as thats where I was advised to put them but I dont think my lights are very strong. I dont test for calc and mag so do not know what they are. Any ideas on what to do next?

How old is this tank? Granted... those ammonia and nitrite readings are very low and could be testing error, but in a tank ready for corals, ammonia and nitrites should be undetectable. Salinity is also a little low - probably want to shoot for 1.025-1.026. (Is that a hydrometer reading or a refractometer?)

Agree that the lighting isn't overly powerful and in the long term those corals are probably not going to be happy on the sand bed. BUT, I don't think lighting is your issue... yet. I think it's a water quality issue since both corals are pretty much doing the same thing. Also, that maze brain wants to be rotated 90 degrees from how you have it. The majority of the tissue should be "seeing" the lights - what appears to be facing the camera should be pointed straight up.

I have changed the position now and although it is most possibly water quality I did buy other corals and put them in at the same time which seem to be doing fine. Thanks for replies
