IMO/ IME lighting is important, but good, stable water parameters is way more important for color. Strong turbulent flow is important too.

I cut light intensity pretty far back a couple of weeks ago and came home to some nice color changes.

LOL - they are not quite picture pretty yet but I am noticing good things. Also, my pictures aren't worth you-know-what. I have an SPS that has white polyps on a light chocolate colored base. Two weeks ago there was very little contrast but now the polyps really pop against the light brown. I've got more polyp extension on all of my SPS too. I hope the improvement continues.
