just bought a frog spawn on impulse, did not really do my homework. the guy at the store said it would be fine under my odyssea power compact lights, i have had two other people tell me that it is going to die. Any one have any other opinions? also can anyone tell me what type of coral would do well under this type of lighting??? i am very new to this and have no clue. not wanting to spend a lot of money of this tiny tank (starter tank) but still want some cool stuff to go in it. i plan on going bigger and sinking my money into that tank. so for now my small tank with these lights is all i am working with. I appreciate any help. thanks

Frogspawn require very little light. It will be fine.

Just make sure your calcium and alkalinity are in the zone and it should do great.

You may also feed it small amount of mysis shrimp to supplement it if you really feel it is lacking the amount of light it need.

FWIW power compacts have been really become obsolete to T5 lights. T5 bulbs are cheaper and they are much more potent (with good reflectors). In the future you may way to avoid power compacts all together in lieu of T5s.

Good luck!

I agree with Logzor... T5s way better, but PCs are fine for most softies and some LPS, but it really depends on your bulbs and wattage. If you only have a 2 bulb fixture I wouldn't run an actinic bulb, I'd do two daylights or a 50/50 (daylight actinic combo) and daylight.

I kept an elegance coral under 2 x 65w PC lights in a 12" tall tank for a year before moving it to my main tank. It started bleaching from lack of light after a month or so, so I moved it up to the top of the tank and it was fine after that.

You really need to research the corals to understand how they're responding to the light so you can decide where to put them.

To answer your second question: Some good PC corals would be like: Xenia, Kenya Tree, Paly's, Shrooms

I'm currently using dual 96W PCs over a 20 gallon long SPS (acro, monti, and serio) frag grow-out setup. Very good growth, a bit intense for the height, though, so limiting photo period to six hours/day.
Cheers,
Ray
