Coral Dips

Was wondering if i could get some thoughts on coral dips. I bought and was planning on using Revive because I read that it wasn't too harsh on the coral itself, however I've also been told that it might not be enough to kill pests? Thoughts?

lots of people in my area use bayer insect for pests...seems to work on every coral with no effects...

Revive is a great dip, its not for killing parasites. Bayer is the best and another good one is CoralRX. Iodine is very handy to keep for infections, here is a link about iodine dipping

I combine QT with removal of all non living parts and multiple Bayer dips. No pests make it through.

Thanks for the link, I skimmed it will read it in more thoroughly tomorrow. What would you use revive for? You prefer Bayer to Coral RX?

Do you guys mean Bayer the insecticide? How much would you use per gallon?

Depends on what I find in the dips. If nothing after 3 dips I give the frags the clear. The important caveat is that all non living parts are removed to prevent the introduction of eggs/cysts ect.

Yes. Any non living coral material I remove. This often means some living parts are removed as well to be sure. I would rather destroy the frag than risk introducing something that will threaten the whole reef.

wow i have never considered removing all non living parts but ultimately that is the safest bet....one day when i have million dollar looking system that may be the way to go.....that is probably the one and only fool proof way to keep out everything bad.......

That's what I have found. Easier with SPS than other corals though. It has the added benefit of controlling the introduction of other organisms. I have no macro algae species in my system because of this.

That would keep bryopsis and aptasia and every other problem child from getting in in the first place....no chance to slip through the cracks literally
