Coral Frenzy Feeding

i use a syringe and target feed all the corals once a week. which is a half teaspoon full mixed with saltwater in a jar. fills the syringe 3 times.

set aside about an hour to do this every week. and it takes that long. each mouth, each polyp...cause i love to watch them close up around the food.

i noticed that when i first started target feeding. once i know everyone got a little something, i run the skimmer wet.

not as good as Rod's food....but yes.

Here's the scoop on local Rod's Food, Rochestarians....CF will be getting their first shipment in this week. I swear by this stuff. It is a little more expensive, but my tank is thriving since i switched. Ran out here about 3 weeks ago...had to drive to Buffalo to get it...but no more. Ask for it the next time you are up there. The big size is 20, I believe...lasts my 90g for a few months. They also carry just the coral food and the packet of fish eggs that i use as a "treat" once a month. (and also the aggressive...Darth Fuzzy loves this.)

Gee Henry, maybe you just touched on one of my phos. issues. I use about 56 grams a month. I feed about a teaspoon 2 or 3 times a week. Sometimes more. Is it actually a known hi-phos source?

Both Coral Frenzy and Rod's food can really boost nutrient levels. That doesn't mean that they're bad, one just needs to use them in moderation and have robust filtration/water change schedule to deal with them.

+1 with Scott, these products work very well ime/imo but need to use it as a special feeding like once a week unless you have a very rigorus maintenance schedule. Also G at abc makes his own blend similar to rods which I use and have had good results with it.

I read G has another batch coming out in the near future.
Since the search function doesn't seem to work anymore, would someone be willing to post a link to the thread about phos. content in various food / food products please.

i feed 24hrs before a water change. fish and lps really seem to dig it. waiting on g to make another batch of his special sauce. i'm a not a fan of rod. seems like a shady guy IMO. i'd much rather buy from someone less motivated by greed and profit.

Well put me in the minority, but I feed Rod's Original food as the staple diet and do not have an increase in phosphates. I do run GFO. Not sure if it is marketting shill, but they have said their food does not need to be rinsed and does not contribute an extra phosphates compared to other frozen foods.

All I can say is in my situation I do not have microalgae growth or an increase in phosphates while feeding Rod's almost every day (and running GFO).

Of course, maybe you guys are just referring to Rod's Coral Blend and then I'd look stoopid

i use all Rod's food products. I'll drive to Buffalo to get them. Now that CF is carrying them, i'll be saving $$$$ in gas.
