Ok, I have this coral here that I bought or should I say rescued from a local pet store. it was in pretty sad shape when I bought it and the employees did not know what it was, so I gave them $5 for it. After a few weeks in my hospital tank set up at work, its health improved remarkably so I took it home and put it in my tank. Two weeks later I can see quite a bit of new growth and then an Ice storm hit. I was with out power at home and at work for four days. I managed to run my circulation pump for about 6 hours a day using a power inverter and car batteries. But, I didn't have any lights, or heater. The water temp never dropped below 63 degrees F but that is still very cold for a reef tank. I did loose quite a bit of corals and a few fish. I have been doing 10 gallon water changes twice a week to get every thing back in shape. I still have a bit of an algae problem but it is beginning to recede.
Last week the coral was standing tall and looking great except for a brown spot that appeared on its base. The coral has slumped over and has since attached its side to the rock and there are more brown spots appearing.
So what is this coral? I thought it kind of looked like a Colt coral but now I am not sure.
What are these brown spots?
Should I move it to a brighter part of the tank, I suspect that it might need more light. It is currently in a corner where I acclimate all my corals when introduce to the display. The corner isn't quite as bright as the rest of the tank due to my rock structure and has a lower flow as well. What should I do?
