It looks nothing like the Pavona that I have in my tank. I have some red and pink in my tank now and they gets sweepers on them as well. This has little hairy type polyps.

Are there other forms of SPS that have polyps like that besides pavona?

Definitely not hydnophora either because hydno is an LPS not and SPS.

I do appreciate the help with this one.

wow... well I am pretty sure Hydnophora is an sps... you know I personally have never seen anything besides browned out and green pavona also so....

I am sorry that my suggestion of pavona didnt suit what you were looking for but I am still pretty sure it is that... if it isnt then it is most likely just a green digi.

No need to apologize. The hydnophora I have in my tank has a skeleton much like that of LPS. It is ver brittle. I have always understood it that SPS have a much thicker skeleton structure so that is why I figured it probably is really an LPS and not SPS. I am definitely no expert and don't want to be. Maybe the name Hydnophora is used to describe several different species of coral.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks trueblackpercula. It grows pretty fast and seems to be very hardy.

Actually folks this is not a Hydnophora at all. This is a different genus all together. What you have here is a Psammocora contigua. The have much smaller polyps and tentacles that extent from the body of the coral. Given a sufficient amount of light (not too much) they will absolutely glow. I have several in my displays and they are super fuzzy, there are one of my favorite non-Acro SPS. I have linked up Veron's page on this species, his photos do not show how fuzzy these actually can be. I will also get a link from my website.

and from RM

I hope this helps you all out, let me know what you all think, but this is a super hardy SPS.

Thanks ReeferMadnessUS,

So what you're saying is that I am not charging enough for 3 frags that I am selling;)..........based on your pricing that is. I am selling each frag for $20 and they are what you see in the picture. After looking at your links I would say that it is definitely much closer to that than pavona which I already have in my tank.

Your morph is much more florescent green than mine. Mine has always been a deep hunter green regardless of what lighting I have it under. Currently its under 10k, 250 watt XM's with some VHO supp.

Big Boy69,

Doesn't digi have round shaped polyps? I believe they do. This has hairy type polyps so I don't see a corolation between that and digi. I will try to get a better close up of it though.

Thanks,
Bill

thanks, it was sold to me as a monti, but i knew it wasn't found the id in borneman's book. It is a slow grower for me, looks like you have pieces to spare.:)

I will have to look in my borneman's book again. I don't remember seeing it in there. Maybe that is because I didn't know what it was.

My has grown a bunch in 4 years, but not as fast as some SPS do. I keep breaking pieces off every time I move it so frags a plenty. I think the growth rate is picking up some now under my 10k, 250 watt XM's. Before it grew well under 6 VHO's.

What type of lights are you using?

-Bill

ive got 250's, but i have only had it a little over a year and it has doubled in size, but mostly it has gotten denser, not branching out as your appears to be. i think yours is a p. contigua, mine is a p. digitata.
