Coral id help please

I bought this acan and the brown plate looking things were attached...ok so now 2 months later these things are getting big!!! Anyone know what they are and if they are a nuisance?

If the brown plates are brittle and break easy .. Then, it looks to be montipora to me. What are you using for light?

they are very brittle... they bend very easily and could probably pull them right off.

oh and the lighting is just 90 watts of fluorescent strip lights on a 20 gallon long frag tank i threw together lol

Lobophora sp. or Padina sp. macroalgae.

Oh man... I am so sorry that brown stuff is going to spread all over your tank and kill everything. Just give that rock to me and I'll take care of it.

Seriously it look like some type of kelp. No big problem.
