Coral Identification

Can anyone suggest a good source for coral identification and care? I am fairly new to keeping corals and not always sure which ones are fine filter feeders and which ones depend on me to feed them, how much light and current they need. That kind of stuff.

Book form is great but internet is good too. I appreciate any input you can give the newbie.

Thanks
Steve

try saltcorner.com/sections/zoos etc. That will do for corals, inverts, fish, pest, etc.

For coral ID, there are few better (if any) than whelk.aims.gov.au, but I think they are making you pay for the images now on a CD (or the website is down for some reason and won't let you get to coral search). There is, of course, a lot of difficulty in properly identifying alot of corals (esp. sps), so it can be aguessing game, after you leave the realm of common softies and LPS. Veron's Corals of the World is an excellent resource (he ID'ed most of the corals on the whelk.aims page). HTH

I consulted the whelks.aims page earlier today and had no problem. The colors in the pics are not the best IMO, but they are pics taken in the ocean, not in aquaria with lighting specifically designed to optimize color. Melevsreef is great for identifying all sorts of commonly encountered species, and their affects on home aquaria. My $0.02.
