Coral instead of anemone

I would bet you do not have the type of anemone that your clown would be found in the wild.

I agree any coral is hit or miss, but those of us who spend a fair amount of time in the anemone forum have come to recognize that even clowns that have ignored an anemone for a long period of time, once given the proper sea anemone as it would be found in the wild, host acceptance is almost always near immediate.

The most common issue we see is people buy any ol clowns, typically occs or percs, and any nem they come across, typically a BTA, and then wonder why they never pair up, and BTA is not a natural host for occs or percs

There may be something to that, perhaps not in this particular case though. My clowns are simply idiots. It's an event at the house to see one of them anywhere but within a foot of the return they hang out at. The have NEVER been into the rockwork or anywhere near the bottom of the tank. The tank is 24"deep and they stay in the top 6" of it. I'm hoping that with time they will venture out. I may start turning off the powerheads at feeding time and lure them to a different side of the tank or something.

Sorry for the thread hijack. Just ignore me!!

My Duncan coral hosts my clowns. They just laid another clutch of eggs on it today.

There is never a guarantee that the clowns will set up camp in any specific coral. Mine used to nest between a couple of plating montipora before they adopted the Duncan.

What's the green coral?

Mine clowns hang out in my gonipora

Those tentacles look crazy long compared to other Duncans I've seen.

My clown has gone from my galaxia to my Duncan to my green hammer. She even spent a few days living in the space between one of my power heads and the glass. If it's got soft tentacles, it'll probably be a clown home at some point.

Clowns are odd... They'll setup camp just about in anything. If you want an easy coral though that the clown will almost for sure take a liking to get a toadstool leather. They loves those things and toadstool host pretty well. My maroon lays down on his side in toadstool while napping.

Mine used to love being hosted by my GHA. I could tell they were ticked off at me when that went away.

For probably the past 6 years or so they were being hosted by my internal wier.

I lost one of my false percs a couple years ago and just reintroduced a new much smaller ocellaris and the new little guy took right to my RBTAs (9 of them). The old lady in there is showing some interest now too.
