Anyone have any idea what these strange snowflake-shaped growths might be?
I've been digging around for a few weeks trying to find something similar but haven't had any luck...
When I first got the paly frag a couple of months ago I noticed 3 or 4 little pinhead-sized tufts on a stalk but didn't think much of it. Over the course of 4-6 weeks 1 or 2 more appeared. Then, when I returned from being out of town for 10 days I found they had not only exploded into the large snowflake-shapes all over the paly frag, but also all over the stalk of a candy cane/trumpet coral.
I pulled both from the tank, did another long dip in ME Coral Wash, scraped off the stuff off, then returned them to the tank.
The scrapings look kind of like egg sacs - but took awfully long to 'bloom' or spread if that's what they are (not sure if the 'pod' or whatever it is is associated with them - three of them came off the frag when I re-dipped in an attempt to clean the other stuff of the stalks)...
It's been about 4 weeks since the re-dip and cleaning and I am just starting to see a few new small growths re-appearing on the both paly and candy cane stalks.
Any ideas or insights on what it could be would be much appreciated.
