Coral pics

I was taking some pictures for another post and got a little camera crazy. So, I figured I would post the pics here for everyone to see and then just link to it. I hope you all enjoy.

Don't hold me to names on these, especially for the zoas. I buy what I like and then try to figure out names for them later... so I could be wrong... and I wouldn't mind a heads up if I am.

A mixed zoa rock from Sn8kbit. Looks like Eagle Eyes, something close to Fire and Ice, and who knows on the orange ones.

Some giant green polyps. Nothing special under full lights, but look excellent when the actinics kick in.

Pink with Green Polyp Mille. Got this from the Critter around a month ago. It just came out of QT and has been coloring up nicely.

Orange Cap from c_stowers and a Purple (Cap?) that I got at the last swap. I've been told that the Purple one is not actually a cap but I can't think of the right name. It definitely grows differently (thicker plates with more ridges and grows a lot slower than my orange cap).

Green People Eater-like Palys. I know some others in the club have the same things. I got these from EvilMel.

Mixed Green Zoas (there are actually two types there, but the big ones kind of over shadow the others). I found these buried in the bottom of a tank at Pet Palace. I actually really like them and the big green ones are starting to get speckled, so we'll see what happens with them.

Orange Rics from Sn8kbit. I think this has become my favorite coral.

Green/Purple Zoas. Can't think of the name of these, but they grow like weeds. Got just a few polyps from EBay a few months ago.

Bam Bam Oranges. Angela and I split a small colony of these. Probably my favorite zoas that I have.

Radioactive Dragon Eyes. A little fuzzy, but not too bad. Got this one from Angela.

Ok... I'm done for now. I have a bunch of other stuff in the tank, but I have a hard time getting decent pics of a lot of stuff that look anything like what they do in my tank. Thanks for looking!

hey brian, can i come stare at youre tank for hours again? :) its looking as great as the last time i saw it. out of curiosity howd you find that huge colony at the critter? they never have stuff like that when im there. pm me with the details on it :) i must not know the right people. <~~~steve

My bam bam's are growing great for me! I love the ones you got from ebay, the purple looking that grow fast. I may need a few polyps of them ;). Tank looks awsome!!

Brian:

If you got the purple plating monti from me, I believe it to be M. hodgsoni. Does it have the tiny blue polyps?

Dave

Dave,
The polyps are definitely a lot lighter than the skeleton part. I would say it looks like a real light purple, but my girlfriend thinks I am color blind, so maybe it is blue. I was just getting into the club then, so I don't remember who all I got corals from at that swap (too many faces and too many names). I imagine if you were there and selling something that looks like this it probably was you (and so I'll trust the ID). It started from a piece that was about an inch square. I can't wait for it to get bigger.

I got a piece of that from Dave at the swap and it looks identical to yours....fwiw.

I got a piece of that Cap at the swap as well, but lost it due to monti nudis. Very thick plate and it was slower than the orange I have gotten since. LMK if you decide to frag it.

I am going to let it keep growing a good bit before I knock any pieces off of it... but on the plus side I already know that I am going to be moving in about 2 years, so I'll definitely be selling a ton of frags before that goes down.

Looks good Brian. Doesn't take long at all in this addiction, huh;).

Those PE's are actually Green Stardust PE's. The pink ring is the differentiation. Sometimes, they'll pick up speckles, too. I'll show you a few variations if you guys come by.

Gary- I got a few green stardust PE's from Sn8kbit (at least I think they are) and they look somewhat similar except for the blue speckles they have. So, I'd buy that ID except that these have always just been this same green color... so I don't think they'll change now. They were sold to me as sky blue zoas, but I think in the crazyness of the frag swap that I got handed the wrong bag... because they definitely aren't that. Either way, I think they're pretty cool.

I've got them in all phases. (Solid green -> green with slight pink ring->green, deep pink/white ring, green, deep pink with speckles, covered in speckes with greenish base, then comes Steve's...) Some don't go past the pink rimmed phase, but some go on to the speckles. It takes months for some of them to go all the way (it's been about four months on some of these and some are just deepening the green and starting to show signs of speckles). The ones from Steve are an extreme end of the last phase, which makes them really cool to me. Getting them to hold that color will be the trick. Since your'e running T5's and he was too, they may hold easier for you. I think everyone else is losnig color on the babies. Check out the gallery for the Green Stardust PE's. There are several different looks. These are what people call Desert Foxes (or Area 51's from another online site) when they get the speckles, too. Aren't zoas cool:).

The one baby that I have coming off already (only got two polyps) is looking very similar to the adults, but it may be a little too early to tell. Definitely seem to have a blue-ish ring around the outside. It'll be interesting to see what comes of them.
