coral questions

I have a question. what is this I hear about mushrooms sting other corals as they move, frogspawn stinging other corals with its sweeper tentacle, and so on? is this something I have to worry about or what? what do I do about it I always see people with them both all over their tanks.

I read people use carbon socks in the tank to keep it under control

From my experience and reading:

* Typical mushrooms are very non-aggressive (unlikely to sting). They CAN move but they usually just find a spot they like and stay there. If you received them on a rock they'll probably stay on that rock. If you poured a chemical on them they'd probably move.

* LPS corals (such as Frogspawn, Hammer, torch, galaxea, plate, etc) are the ones that have the sweeper tentacles which definitely can sting. They *CAN* reach up to six inches away but often you can put some soft corals a few inches away and never have a problem.
