Coral Relocation

Folks,

Due to some earlier poor planning on my part, I have a few SPS corals that I would like to relocate in my tank. 3 of them are what I would call mini colonies, and have fully encrusted and are growing well. I almost hate to move them, but they are in areas of my tank where I would prefer other new frags to go"¦ Has anyone successfully moved encrusted SPS to other parts of their tank? How did you handle the area where the coral encrusted, if you wanted to re-use that location for new frags?

Appreciate any ideas and advice"¦

im in the same boat, i have a few growing into each other personally I am going to move the one i don't like as much. just going to break or cut it off and glue it back. If you can avoid disturbing the base and encrusting part I don't think it will even know you did anything and continue to grow. If you have to cut it and where it based up is removed it will have to base again and will grow there instead of vertically.

I move them all the time. If I am moving a colony I will make a pedestal out of two part epoxy stick. Smooth it like its a natural growth and super glue it in place. While it is soft place the colony where you want and press it into the epoxy. Now move it and set it aside for about 15 minutes
the epoxy will be pretty hard by then. Apply super glue gell to the epoxy mold and to the coral. Place colony in place and break the seal on the glue globs by twisting and squishing. Hold in place for about 30 seconds and its done. In a couple of months you wont be able to tell. If you look at he pictures posted of the left side of my tank you can see a red mili and a green nasutra that I have done this to lately. If you look closely at my aquaculture you can see where it is done like this many times in my display. All my pieces were grown from frags but i still cut them up and move them around all the time.
