Coralife salt pros and cons versus others?

There are tons of who is using what salt threads. I have looked most over and most do not address Coralife slat.
Is this because most reefers will not use Coralife salt or do not know about it? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and inputs.

I used it with no problems. It desolves quick, and comes with a free t-shirt :) I have just switched to tropic marin pro reef, so far no ill effects from the switch.

Yes the free shirt I have a few to the point where when I wear them at the LFS most think I work there. To the point I am teased by the owner of the LFS that I might work there.

I used it when I first got into the hobby and had problem(bad batches with high calcium)so I stopped using it.
4yrs later I tried it again for about a year.while the #'s were good,I had alot of sps deaths and brown algea that would not go away, kinda like the oceanic complaints.that year ended about 8-9 month ago.i switched back to IO and all is good.all of the weird problems stopped.
I may be wrong but I think it got pretty bad ratings in any salt tests that have been done.

A long time ago Coralife salt was known to have a very high....I think it was lithium concentration. This information was from a study of the salt mixes done by Atkinson and Bingman in 1999, but the article is no longer available on line. It's quite possible that Coralife salt is better formulated these days, but I do not know. Some people (again, this is anecdotal info from almost 7 years ago, so take it with a large grain of your choice of salt) found they were having problem when they would introduce sea stars into their reef tanks that were using Coralife salt.

Yes your right about the lithium content, parts of that article can still be found,i seen it not all that long ago.But the newest salt tests (last year?)if i remember correct still made notes on the lithium content.and some sort of fry could not be raised.

One other thing i noticed when using it is my coraline alga all died and i really had none growing on the glass through the whole time using it.Now that i'm back to IO i'm back to scraping the glass again.
I dont know, twice i used it,twice i had really bad results.some peeps have good results.but needless to say i'll never use it again.

I can say that with coralife, I have and had a ton or coraline algea. I am talking about scraping at least once a week, but I do have a calcium reactor. I also had no problems with stars, at least with serpents, brittle, and asterina stars. Still, I am not saying it is the best, only it worked well for me.

Were you dosing anything besides the reactor?Like strongtonum?I've always used a reactor also, but still had problems. As far as the coraline went i always wondered if strongtonum would have made the difference.since its low in that also.

From what I understand Coralife still has high lithium. Mag is in a good range but the calcium is quite high at about 480-500. I use the IO now and bump the ca and mag up just a little with Randy's homemade formula.

wrassie86,
Nope no real additive schedule. I would add iodide once in a while. I did add a little part b of my two parts to boost alk and ph from time to time. That was only when my monti caps started showing me som signs (great indicator coral).

I think I will probably stick to tropic marin now, or at least as long as the lfs keep getting it. My main reason is that tropic marin has a reputation for being consistently high quality. I have never heard of a bad batch of tm. Every other salt however, well you have heard the stories. If for some reason I can't get tropic marin, then instant ocean here I come.
