Coralife super skimmer pics

any one want to show pix of a recirc mod I am about to attempt it with original needle wheel pump intake sliped into a uniseal and feed strait from overflow hope someone can give me some insight on this mod:confused:

7 days with the air mod and no adjustmenst at all!! I got about 1" skimate on a 1 gallon of milk container. I've been having to clean the collection cup about twice last week, it gets coated fast. Also my cyano problem is gone since I installed the skimmer :) now the few patches of HA are looking sick and starting to die off.

Hi all, I am looking for a quick tip regarding these skimmers. I am about to upgrade my tank to a 120g and need to upgrade my skimmer as well. I really need to keep cost down right now and so am looking for the best bang for the buck. I can get the 220 for $140 online, should I look no further or are there other comparible skimmers in this price range? There is also an Octopus NW200 for $180...

Any opinions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Ok just remembered I could uplink the picture in the gallery, so here it is. Hardly a recognizable CSS65 but works great for the little room it occupies:

The air valve mod I did actually is hooked up to an air pump, by injecting more air into the pump not less, I found the skimmer to perform better. But whatever works for you, even if it means restricting air into the skimmer.

After my skimmer mod, I also started sugar treatment for my tank, now my skimmer collects one cup of skimmate EACH DAY consistently and the foam it pulls out is so dense it spits out from the hole on the lid, I now have to wipe it off everyday or else the hole can be clogged soon and stop the skimming.

Well after doing this mod the discharge mod, with the red knob all the way open and the airline all the way open my tank dumped 5G of water on the floor and 5G of kalk top off water went in the thank!! everything is fine except the wife :), carpet is almost dryed now, I got fans going all night and the ac down to 75, any ideas of what happened this a pic of the mod I got it from the mod list thread.

All,

I am not sure if the question/problem I am facing has been addressed before, as this is such a large thread, so I apologise if I am repeating my concern.

Last weeks my CSS 210 ceased producing bubbles. The pump was still moving water through the skimmer but there were absolutely no bubbles being ejected into the skimmer chamber. My first raction was that the ventiru had gotten clogged and needed cleaning. After inspecting the venturi it turned out that it was not clogged. At this point I was confused as to what had happened and decited to assembled everything back together. Once I started the pump the skimmer started working as if nothing had happened. Today the same thing has happened again. There are no bubbles being introduced into the chamber even though the pump is moving water through the skimmer. Since the skimmer was working fine as of a couple of hours ago I am completely baffled as to what is going on with my skimmer.

Any ideas/suggestions as to what may be going on would be greatly appreciated it.

Thanks.

Check the airline tubing for a build-up of salt. I have had this happen many times. You need to pull off the tube, find the salt build up and clean it out. Usually if you crush the tubing at the point of the build up it will break it loose. Run some water through the tube to get the loose salt out.

When you clean out the venturi you may be breaking loose or moving the build up enough that it works for a while until it moves again or builds up.

Try this first. There may be other problems but this is a pretty common one.

I have tried this mod and dont really see how it benifits. I also had my skimmer overflow numerous times with this mod.

On the topic of mods, has anyone tried to do the mesh wheel or gutterguard wheel mod on these skimmers? Is it possible to do?

The discharge mod is to stop micro bubbles from escaping into the display tank. You can't open the red knob all the way with this mod unless you have installed the gate valve mod before the discharge mod. Then you can open the red knob all the way and adjust the height of the water with the gate valve.

I see, even if I close it a little it will fill up and spill, well I was just trying to get rid of the box. I need to learn if is not broken don't try to fix it :)

Are you sure the valve was opened and not closed? As the valve closes this raises the water level up the neck of the skimmer. If the valve on mine is completely opened i can actuall unscrew the collection cup with out water coming out.

Hey, jonnyD, I feel horrible that i don't remember his name, but yes, someone has done the meshwheel mod. He started out by doing a fishing line mod that works pretty well too. You might try posting a thread asking about it.
