I am new to marine fishkeeping and am thinking of pruchasing a coralife Super Skimmer does anyone have any experience with one of these and can tell me if they are good or not. It`s the one rated for a 125gallon in which I have a 75gallon tank.

Thanks in advance

I would not waste my money on a coralife super skimmer if I were you. A few questions should be answered first before we can help you with skimmer selection.

A) What is your budget
B) Do you have a sump or are you looking for a hang on the back model?
C) What is your bioload? Corals, ammount of fish etc..

The coralife is an old skimmer with a pretty cheap pump. It will skim descent but for the same money you can buy a skimmer that will outperform the CSS 10fold.

If you have a sump, then I would consider many of the octopus skimmers, such as the NW150 for a medium bioload tank, cheap and skims great. Or a euroreef rs80, or asm g1x or bigger, or a vertech in100. All of these skimmers will outperform the CSS.

For HangOntheBack (HOB) models, euroreef has rescently come out with a nano skimmer with good reviews, or the octopus 800, or Eschops has come out with one too.

1) The budget isnt great
2) I am going to costruct a sump so I suppose it does`nt matter
3) 0 fish 0 corals. New tank with 70lb of LR from when I bought the tank ffrom the person who owned it

A good skimmer will help reduce the ammount of potential algae blooms invlolved with the cycling of your tank and the live rock. I found my old octopus NW150 for $75 and it outperformed my original CSS by at least 10fold, it was amazing how much better it was. I have seen numerous posts for similar skimmers for $125 or less, I would think that would be on the low end for budgets.

I have a Coralife 220, It has worked ok, but I hate the look of a HOB and plan to upgrade soon. I would personally spend my money on something else, the skimmer is not the piece of equipment you want to skimp out on.

no used, but in new condition, just be patient and you can find deals on reef central here or you local reefing forums.

cool, hey thanks for you r time I appriciate it. I will keep my eye out on here for a bit. I did find it for $178 so thats not too bad
