Hello,i had a ? about a Coralife SuperSkimmer i bought off of ebayLINK.

I havent recived it yet(just tryin to get some info)but i got it at a good deal because the seller said it was working fine one night, got up the next moring and it wasnt making the tornado of bubbles.

He said he tried messin with the settings but it didnt help so he just bought a new one. now we used to have one like this

8c_1.JPG

and it did the same crap ALL THE TIME (always having to reset the air intake to get a tornado)and i beleave its the samething happing with the coralife, but i just wanted to know what you guys think it could be?

im hoping he just didnt know how to use it and i got a good deal because he said nothing is broke no leaks and its still pumping water just no tornado of bubbles..LMK

My guess is the pump was too deep in the water and can't suck in air. I have the 220 model and it needs to be within 3 or 4 inches under water surface to work porperly. I used an air pump with it...to increase bubble. Works great.

Good Luck!

the magnet jams up inside --just have to unplug it and start it up again. I thought my pump broke cuz the bubble production would stop in the riser tube but yet the water was still moving ---I unplugged it and it started up again. it does it every couple months or so, but still works fine --so I havent bought a new one yet

i agree, i think that you want to make sure that your pump is the correct distance below the water level...mine is about 3.5 inches on my 65 model and it skims like crazy. Once you get it figured out im sure you will be happy with this skimmer.

Ok i Got it today, and out side of the waste cup having a crack in it and the back of the pumps case having a chip out of it everything works..does this look like its working like it should?pic's were taking after running it for maybe 30mins..

also what do i need to do with the red knob?if i leave it fully open it it works as in the pics,if i close it it fills the waste cup up with water FAST,where should i have it?

also is there any way i can mod the pump to run out of the tank?its so dam huge it takes up what seems like half my tank LOL(36g bow)..i was thinkin of using some tubin and a old back pack filter's intake pipe..LMK

Looks good. That's about what mine usually looks like.

In my experience, the bubble level should be at the bottom of the tube with the red knob (flow valve) opened all the way. If it's not, close the knob on the intake tube (air valve) A LITTLE (it's touchy) to get it to go down.

Imagine what that pump looked like on my 18G tank. This is why I run it on sump now. To my knowledge, there's no way to do the mod you're suggesting and still have the skimmer perform as well as it should, but it's possible I'm just not aware of a way.

A little heads up about things the manual doesn't tell you: this skimmer is INSANELY touchy on matters of water level. If you don't have an autotopoff system yet, get one. In addition, the "bubble reducer" box has some filter floss in the bottom of it. This floss has to be changed about every other week and the sponge cleaned out. Otherwise it will be a microbubble mess in your system.

Also - something I just ran into a couple of weeks ago - don't know how, but I got some salt creep inside the air inlet on the pump and it pretty much killed all air flow going into the needle wheel. Once I cleaned it out, the skimmer is working perfectly again. In the event that it does stop producing bubbles check the air intake and/or clean the entire pump.

i dont see anything to close or open on the intake side.the air comes in thur the little MEd bottle looking thing, down a air tub and into the pump..

i tried twisting the MED bottle thingy and it doesnt move..theres a air port on the exhuast tube that if i put my finger over it the bubbles drop almost to the bottom of the wate cup,but i cant find anything to set how much air is going in the skimmer...

I dont think there is a way to adjust the ingoing air. On my css225 there isnt one. You can adjust the water level with the red knob if thats what your looking for.

edit:
mines the needle wheel version if that helps

There should be a way to adjust the ingoing air.

Which SS model is it? The 65 or the 120?

it should be a 65,but it came in a 125 box altho they look diff so im sure its the 65..it came with a rio 1100 pump if that helps..

and yeah mines a needle wheel also, and the onlything you can "set" on it is the red knob...

its the red know that you can see in bottom of the first picture...at least i think that is what you are trying to find.

what?????i know where that knob is its the (RED KNOB).a few post up youll read that i said if i close that knob all the way the skimmer dumps a ton of water into the waste cup fast...but its on the EX side, and psimitry said there should be something on the INTAKE side to adjust air intake but mine doesnt have one..

I think psimitry was mistaking unless im missing something. You should turn the red knob to get the right water level. I think right at the bottom of the collection cup or so it what you want. Anyways start there and move the water up or down by turning the knob SLIGHTLY as it is very sensitive to get dryer or wetter skimmate.

could be.but i havent messed with the knob since i almost soaked my floor the 1st time LOL.its fully open and turnin the knob only makes it go up higher.onlything that makes it go down is putting my finger over the output pipe's air hole..

They must have come out with a new revision or something. My skimmer comes with a knob on the intake side that allows me to slow down the intake of water/air into the reaction chamber.

But as I'm looking at ESU web, and the 300DPI version of the 65G skimmer, this knob is no longer there.

I wish I had my camera with me. I'd take a picture of the knob I'm talking about.

you see the MED Bottle looking thing?air comes in there, thur a tube and into the pump...

right, mine looks exactly the same and the only knob that I have ever done any adjusting with is the red knob on top of the tub were the powerhead is attached.

Well today the water has droped down below the bottom of the cup with the knob fully open. so i guess its broke in now,but im not pulling any really nasty stuff out of the water like ive seen from somes CSS..

You might not have that much to pull out. Also the cloudy white stuff is also pretty nasty as well.
