coraline algae

I wasnt going to do the purple up. Then I went to petco and it was on clearance for $.50 so I said what the hell and got it. It seems to be working great.

How do you make the coraline grow on the glass? My back wall has some but it doesn't get more. There are some green patches starting, do they have anything to do with the coraline patches or do I wipe them off?

Purple up isn't useless but there are plenty of better (and cheaper) alternatives out there. Kalkwasser will do the same thing, much (!!!) better, and for a fraction of the cost. Coraline is, like most algae, not picky...CA, Alk, lights and off you go.

Kalk also does not contain mystery trace elements that you have no idea what they do in the long term. Most likely harmless and useless but why pay extra for it when you can get a years supply of Kalk for a few bucks.

To get coralline on the glass all you have to do is neglect cleaning your glass  and coralline can start off green and turn purple/pink I believe.
