Ok, so I visited a lfs, that I had just discovered today and was asking the owner about Coraline as I want to start seeing some Purple in my tank:). And he was telling me its bad as it "chokes" the lr. I was like whoa ok... Now he seemed to very knowledgeable but his fish were atrocious he had a mandarin that was so thin, IT WAS IN A BAREBOTTOM TANK!!!! but thats another story. So is Coraline bad?

PBITAWA? Peanut butter is the awasomest wicked apetizer?

Yea, I know I was like sure buddy, I dont go to this guy except to buy my formula 1 pellets and flakes. His coral is tip top but his fish I feel bad I wish my pockets and tank was bigger

Pour Bleach In Tank And Walk Away ;)

I'd be very curious to his methods of keeping coralline 'in check'. Coralline is a side effect of having healthy calcium levels.

Yea, he was like *points to display tank* I want all this coraline gone. I was Die please, his Display tank was gorgeous but all his fish had pinched stomach except his 4" Ocellaris Pair which were AWSOME! and had laid eggs in that tank.

please find a new lfs, don't support a store that gives advice like that and has fish in that condition.

I only buy food from there as many other lfs dont carry formula one , or two. Ill take a pic and post it tomorow of that poor mandy

a mandarin in bare bottom?? how is it eating? even if all his tanks are linked together he won't get enough pods.

Find a new store and tell him he's an idiot. Correct water conditions will make coralline flourish.

Pour Bleach In Tank And Walk Away

HAHA love it!!
Handy little acronym, no? I must admit, I never heard it before coming here to RC. No doubt you'll find it scattered around the site.

where in ontario are you, I will go up there and call him an idiot. As far as other stores not carrying the food, I'm sure they can get it if you ask. Also let them know why. You'll notice that some LFSs are there because they enjoy what they are doing and others are there just to make a buck.

Just a suggestion...you can probably order the food on line and cheaper..from the sounds of this place.

OK I shall post his address

4525 Ebenezer Rd
Brampton Ont

:):)

Yes its pretty expensive as I pay 13$ for a 100g pellets, but it lasts me awhile so its ok.
http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/211399/product.web ... 3.5oz = 100g, and your dollar is stronger than ours (go US economy, go!)

the content of that site you linked up does not match the account you've given. not that I don't trust you, rather, I'd expect better than what's coming from his mouth.

I personally would discourage people without an actual first hand account dealing with the vendor to engage him over email. That's just my non-confrontational opinion, though. < shrug >

have you checked on-line? I'm not sure if they ship to Canada and what the shipping charges will be

here is a promo code for $5 off

ordering other supplies may make it worth it. I saved $25 on a bucket of salt through there over my LFS

I'll go with you. I'll point and laugh.

For your food try jlaquatics.com, they are based in B.C. and have great prices. I order from them all the time, never had any problems and they beat all prices in my area. (Victoria, B.C.) I had a quick peek for you and saw some formula 1 and 2 stuff, see if it's what you're after.

While I don't agree with your LFS, there is a theory that if the rock is completely covered with think coralline algae that it will block the rock. Basically say that it will be too think for the bacteria won't be able to get into the deep insides of the rock and do the final step of the nitrogen cycle. (( or it could be that the water wouldn't be able to get into the deep part of the rocks ))

Like I said, I don't agree with that theory, I can understand the thought process.
