anyone have any tips on how to grow coraline fast? i saw on here someone had their whole tank covered in it in like 3 months!

Covered tank in 3 months sounds like a fib.But good coraline growth is a sign of water quality. As poor growth shows you may have trouble. After 3 months you should see growth but you wont cover your tank. Also some stock like urchines can eat it.
Give me your water readings as this would help.

it wasnt a fib there was a posted pic but i cant find the thread... i dont have my readings ryt now but last i tested they were all good... i was just wondering for future use because i just setup a biocube. i currently use purple up in my 20

nice ok i am already using that in my other tank just seems to sustain the coraline i already have but i have been seeing more since i got my new light so maybe i just need to wait a lil more... any more tips on reef supplements that give good results i have never been really sure here besides the basic

Purple up will work but is a short term effect. You cant use very long and many in here dont like its use.You need to learn the basics and if you have then you would thread 'How to control coraline algea".There are articles on coraline being bad in high amounts. So like i always say its about control and controling coraline in another control. And if its not growing in a 3 month tank them you need to fix right rather then try the old quickfix.
A simple water reading would help.Do you know your readings?

Coraline needs calcium.Replaced from water changes and steady water readings. Coral can take worse conditions then coraline but not much and many fish can go even worse.Coraline needs proper readings and purple is good but if y ou get pink or brown then your golden.

Also i am gonna sound really dumb but how do you figure out your alk... nothing has died coral, fish, invert, so i figure along with readings that everything is good. i feel really stupid for asking

LOL you think its funny.I would say your fine.If its a reef tank then concentrate on there health and you will have plenty of time to enjoy your coraline while your scraping it off the glass.

Try PURPLE UP it's a coraline algae accelarator.
Don't use purple up unless you want to waste money. Make sure your calcium and magnesium levels are good and coraline will flourish. Nothing good happens fast in this hobby.

I seem to get a lot more coralline after increasing my flow. At this point... I'd like to get some purple down... y'know besides my scraper.

I get tons on my powerhead where I drop in my Bionic 2 part solution. I was getting none, because of low alk. Now I get it alot faster. Purple up is another gimmick additive. The shelves in most LFS's are filled with junk. If you test and find out why its not growing, you can treat it. I was using Instant Ocean and even right after a water change my alk would be low. I switched to this guy in PA's organic salt and have been much better. Maybe your salt mix needs a change too. Food for thought.

Covered tank in 3 months sounds like a fib.

Hmmmmm. There's a detailed history of my tank from the day I set it up on my reef club's site. Anyone can see it by clicking the little red house above. Would be pretty hard to "fib". :)

The tank is five months old as of yesterday, and I'll get a picture later when the lights are on. Here is one from the 4-month mark:
(my apologies for being repetitive...this is posted on another thread as well)

I am religious about my 5g weekly water changes and dose 25ml 2-part every morning. Believe it or not, my Ca has been low lately (I was one of the lucky ones to get a bum bucket of Reef Crystals). Was stuck at 360 for several weeks, but now I have it back up to 450 as of this morning.

Parameters are very important, and I test some every week, depending on what I see going on in the tank. Alk and pH are weekly tests 100% of the time though....and if those are in check, everything else usually is.

Anyway...'tis not a fib, but diligent husbandry.
