Coralline algae and carbon dioxide question

I was thinking about making a refugium for my display tank to try and help stabilize the PH. My question is does coralline algae eat carbon dioxide? If so how effecient is it? for instance can I use coralline algae in the same size refugium as one that would work if it was full of caulerpa? Just a thought, Caulerpa is always so messy and pump clogy =). Any knowledge would be appreciated.

Sure coralline will consume nutrients and fix CO2, but not as efficiently as macroalgae.
