coralline algae

My tank has been setup almost a month and I havent seen any coralline algae growth yet. Should I be seeing it yet if i am adding calcium supps? There is a bunch on the rock I bought from an already established tank, but none has grown since.

if you want more coralline, up the calcium...i just throw those no. 23 blocks in and they dissolve as theyre needed, coraline goes crazy for it.
:)

The secret is keeping your alkalinity and calcium steady and give it light. Target 7-11dkh for alk and 400-450 for calcium and it will grow. ;)

what everyone else said, but they forgot the main recipe: patience. it will probably take a few months, so just give it some time. but, here is one additional thing that you can do to help speed things up. turn off your filter(s) and just leave the power heads running. take a razor and scrape off some of the coralline that you do see. let the power heads circulate it for about an hour or two until the little scrapings land in different places in your tank. then turn your filters back on and wait for it to grow.

I just scraped off my back glass about two months ago...I'm starting to see crazy amounts of coraline on my rocks....gotta love it!!!

you can order coraline from places like garf dot org but im not sure if it works...they sell you crushed up coraline and says to put it in your tank..who knows

my tank is 7 months old and have coraline covering 85% of the back and 70% of the LR

Ingredients light, calcium, and alkalinity, to make plenty of coraline grow. Once it starts to grow it will take off.

LOL, pretty soon you'll be complaining about having to scrape it off your glass. :D

I agree with alexb518. Just wait it out. Also, if your water qulity is less than optimal, coralline growth is hindered and you will get nuisance algae instead. Focus on keeping nitrates, phosphates and silicates LOW. Try to keep nitrates under 10ppm. Does kalkwasser. DO NOT waste your money on purple up. Kalk is awesome and is also much easier to use than you may think. Do a google search on the 'DIY Kalkwasser Doser'... takes like 5 minutes to build and works fine.
