looks great! hows that maxijet mod working for you? thinking about doing one on my smaller tank.

They are great...very strong! The one I have on the left is pointing too much to the front of the tank (~45*) and the flow blow downward to the sand when it hits the front glass. I might have to take it out and reposition it so it will blow more across the tank....or just wait till I get a wavemaker so it will be on only for 5 seconds for each PH.

You should definitely do it. I am probably going to put 2 more in there w/ the MJ400 instead of the MJ900 for the back of the tank. :)

I would try avoid putting them on wavemakers. For a regular MJ powerhead, it isnt a big deal but after modding it there seems to be a problem when it starts. It will eventually break down or the magnet will.

What kind of problem? I had try it and it start right away each time. I thought the MJ PH are made more for wavemaker?

In orginal form they are made for wavemakers. But after being modded they shouldn't really be put on wavemakers. I'll try to find the thread and the direct quote if I can. They did tell me a reason but I guess I overlooked it.

one last question. when using a wave maker, the pump comes on and can spin the opposite (wrong) way, in reverse we'll say. the props push away from the motor housing and hit the Stopper. when it hits the stopper, does the prop automatically just stop and spin the other (right) way? when it hits the stopper, is it loud enough to "bug" you?

wondering if in the long run, maybe this mod should not be used on a wave maker. any thoughts?

I was thinking about the wavetimer issue too, the DIY $6 timer that is in this section seems like it would be a reasonable candidate for waves (30 sec intervals) but anything shorter would probably severely impair the propeller's life.

Just look though it, I'm sure there are better reason why.

Yeah, I read that too. Great info. The propeller's probably gonna give out sooner than I thought, but I had put some silicon on the stopper to avoid the hard hit by the prop and hopefully this will extend the life of it. Let's just hope it can last a few months cause I can deal w/ replacing the prop every few months, but any faster I won't use it on wavemaker. :)

Thanks!

Might as well replace the while MJ, prop is already about 10 bucks. But if you have money to spare, go on ahead.

10 bux!? I paid 2 for $5 at the local hobby shop. Since I have 2 MJ, all I need is one for each MJ, so it's not that much to change it....every few months that is. I am hopeing 3 to 4 months, we'll see.
