If a coral gets too much light without aclimation, will they show sign of stress before bleaching or would they just seem to do well then start to bleach suddenly ?
What kind of lps/ How much light?
A coral will bleach for a variety of resons usually associate with the zooxanthelae over producing oygen that the coral can't use and may be harmed by. It's response is to expell the zooxanthelae and "bleach.Excess heat will also cause bleaching a the metabolism of the organism and the zooxanthelae accelerate.
In response to too much light or flow corals will sometimes photo inhibit without bleaching. They just never open and eventually die sometimes pulling their flesh so tight on th skelton that they tear it.
I got some hairy mushroom for more than a month. I placed them right at the bottom of my 2" tank and I realize those facing the lights upwards are starting to bleach. Those facing the side looks ok. Then I got a cynarina that I put on top of the rock works. I used a shade to cover it from direct lighting though and it opens well. Now I am thinking of shifting the cynarina down after seeing my mushrooms bleach. So will the cynarina be ok at the position it is now at top ? The mushrooms are they bleaching from too much light ?
A cynarina is a lower light coral and would do well on the bottom of a brightly lit tank in an area of low to moderate flow. How much light do you have and how deep is your tank?
now I got problem with my hairy mushrooms. They were bleached under my lights and I moved them under shade and now some did not open up and some got their insides spilling out of their mouth. SHould I move them back or do something else ?
They may be dying. They are definatley stressed. I would not move them , every time you do they have to spend a lot of energy to adjust to the light and flow. The shade may be best for at least a few days.
