Hello everyone, my name is Corey. I have been lurking The SPS forums for awhile now but never really posted. I have always had softy LPS tanks and while I love them, I have gotten the bug. The SPS bug.
I have a build thread in the large tank forum but wanted to start one here as I document my tanks growth. I have recently added quite a few frags in the tank. I'll post some pictures and names soon. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2273111&page=30 Are a few pieces I've added. With more on the way.

Here are some water parameters :
Calcium 450
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 7-10
Po4 0
Alk 8.4
Mag 1200 (slowing raising it)

Bubble king skimmer, Hamilton 20k 250 watt bulb, 16k led strip bars, dose vinegar/vodka. 240 gallons about 25-30 fish.

I have slow encrusting growth on a few frags but no vertical growth yet.

I'll post some pictures with my phone when the lights come on.

Well tonight I epoxied a few frags down and added some more media to my reactor including remag. I have struggled to keep my mag up high enough. It's been dipping pretty low, so hopefully this will help keep it up. Not needing to dose it manually, just using my calcium reactor to help it.

So far it is holding my mag pretty steady. It has been a few months so I assume if it was to fail it would have done so. But knowing how life works, I continue to test it just to make sure. It's funny, since it's held steady I have noticed some base building on many frags. Not a lot of vertical growth on some, more encrusting. But some are small pieces and I've seen where they say most pieces will build a base first.

Corey

Hey Corey welcome to the sps obsession. :)
That's some good base growth..
Have you considered clipping a tip or two? Sometimes that perks up the vertical growth..
Pics, man. We will need pics!! :)

Yeah I clipped a piece off a green milli and it is growing in nicely already. Healed and colored up. If this works out I might clip more pieces !!
I have to get out my camera to take some good pictures so I can document growth.

Put a gyre on the overflow box today. I been wanting some flow between the 2 islands. I would prefer a vortech in a dry box but I have heard great things on the gyre flow. While I do like the flow so far, I HATE the cord coming out the top of my tank. It's not really rimless, but eurobraced and no canopy. So I like the clean look of the top of the tank, with no wires hanging out of it. Time will tell if I keep it or what I do.
I will say, the gyre flow with the bubbles from the stone, they really get spread around great. Moved a few frags around, will try to post some pictures tomorrow. Hopefully some flow in the center of the tank will help with debris getting to the sump and flow for the corals in that region of the tank.

Corey

good looking start so far, hope you can get the flow right. I know what you mean with the cords coming out of the tank with the gyre but I think it is worth it for the flow it puts out in my tank.

have one on each side :)

Yeah, the wires are a bit of a pain. I now have 4 gyres in my tank and it's eurobraced. I got wires all over the place..
However, with the new gyre controller on two of them, I am loving the pumps!
