I have a Coris Wrasse ( dont know if he really is or not) that is picking at the substrate in my DT. Is this normal behavior? I know that he is getting enough to eat. Hes a greedy little pig so I named him Piggy. Thank you.

Ah ok. I still dont know if hes a Coris Wrasse though. My LFS said that he was but when I looked up Coris Wrasse they didnt have a pick that looked like him.

Hes rainbow colored. He has red, orange, blue and yellow on him. I will try to get a pic posted. I dont know how to post one on here but I can get it into my gallery.

I have a pic in my gallery of him now. I am really worried that he is going to get too big for the aquarium that I have him in and I cant upgrade for atleast a year to a bigger aquarium. I gotta buy everything 1 or 2 peices at a time. I know that my return pump, powerheads, lr, livesand and most things in the sump can be used in the new one. That way I dont have a large cycle. If any cycle. I am going to have to get more lr and sand though, and a new skimmer

Look at Wrasse 001 thats him. His name is Piggy and I dont want to get rid of him if I dont have to. He was a bit expensive and the hubby doesnt know how much I spent on him. I spent $45 dont tell the hubby lol. I really love his coloring. He has white stripes like that one but he isnt that one. I saw an adult one of those and its not him. Also that one was all red white and black. Hes white stripes, blue, red, orange and yellow. I just pray that he doesnt get too big. I think he is a juvenile something. I was trying to find out what he was and I saw a pic of one that was kinda like him but not quite. It was called Cuvier Coris Wrasse. Said that it got up to 23"s. Scary. Thank you again if anyone can guess what kind he is. I am going to try to fish forum also and see if anyone over there knows what kind of wrasse he is.

have you considered putting on a scuba mask, putting your face in the water and asking him what he is? He might tell you and even let you know where he is from.. JK don't worry, not that crazy, (yet)

sounds like a red corris wrasse.. orange and white while younger and then change to more blue and red with a yellow head and orange markings.. If it is then yes he gets big

I would say it is a Coris gaimard. Watch out as these fish get really, really big and become very bold and even aggessive as they mature. right now yours is in the juvenile color phase and it will eventually change. the reach 60 cm long which is actually just shy of 2 feet. They are highly predatory and will probably eat crabs, shrimps, snails and possibly smaller fish. They would probably leave corals alone for the most part though as I have seen a few of them in reef tanks but I only kept one in a fish only tank.

so, enjoy it for a while but you should probably start thinking about finding it another home.

I can't see the picture hardly at all but to me it looks like my red coris wrasse. It looks like it is changing from juvenile to mature colors. Here is a pic of my mature red coris wrasse.
(Sorry no means a professional like some of you all!!)

yep

yep

It is a coris wrasse that is growing up, becoming a big boy wrasse and changing his colors (don't ask how I know it's a boy), but, part of it looked like a juvenile with one of your pics, and now with the better pic I can see it is what you thought.

May not find a pic that matches it exactly because the color change is dynamic and you would need to find another wrasse at exactly the same stage of development.
