Anyone kept coris wrasses with SPS and what type of sand bed did you have?

They like the fine stuff IMO, if you use too chunky of substrate I hear they can injure their jaw from trying to dive in, it is also common for this injury to occur during shipping.

But if the sand is too fine the water will constantly be cloudy. I prefer a grain size over .5mm, but under 1.5mm for burying wrasses.

A mixed substrate can provide stability from excessive flow and an adequate burying cover for the fish. I've done this in several of my tanks and it works well. I usually use a 3:1 or 2:1 ratio of fine to coarse substrates. It also provides a more natural looking substrate in my opinion.

Mine has been in three types of substrate and never seemed to be bothered by any.
He has been in fine white sand, then a really large grain, almost to the point of crushed coral substrate.
He is currently living in Hawaiian black sand substrate of medium grain size.
None seemed to ever bother him. I have never noticed any wounds, scars, or anything of that nature, and his resting habits have remained the same in all substrates.
Obviously probably safer to stay away from large grain sands/crushed coral/gravel as mentioned above, but you certainly don't have to have super fine sand.
Just my experience with the single corris wrasse i have owned.

mine was fine sand.. The LFS had sand that was much rougher and it seemed to do well in there for over 2 weeks before it was bought.
