Cortez Stingray question

Okay...so still in the planning stages of my stingray/shark tank. Reading everything I can possibly find on the animals before I go any further. So far, the tank is set up. I used super fine live oolitic sand and added 1pound of liverock per 5 gallons water which is just enough to add a little interest to the tank and give me the biological benefits but it leaves most of the tank open with just a nice comfy sand bed for the ray and just a few hiding spots for the shark.

I really am hoping to find someone who has experience with stingrays out there. I can find almost no information on the husbandry of rays. I would specifically like to know about the cortez ray. I am thinking this might be the best ray for me. It seems to stay small, is relatively hardy, and will tolerate warm water. My tank runs around 78 degrees so far..

If anyone out there has kept a cortez ray and can tell me about it I would love any information you could provide. I would welcome any information on any stingray for that matter (other than "don't keep a bluespot" I already know that and have ruled out bluespots).

Thanks in advance!

Before I knew any thing about saltwater aquariums I wanted to make a shark tank. I did some asking around and found out this one problem. I dont know if the information is true or not but the guy was a maintenance person from a LFS. The guy said the if you have a surround sound system close to the tank it will make the shark go crazy and put too much stress on it and it will die. Once again im not sure if this information is correct or not but if it is be careful.

Aquarium Sharks & Rays: An Essential Guide to Their Selection, Keeping, and Natural History

Im going to keep a Cortez very soon, he's about 5-6 inches wide in diameter and they are supposed to stay small. People around here that i asked questions about the ray/ tank to keep frowned on me for not having a big enough tank (125/+) >=( Anyways, my LFS is holding him until my tank is ready. The ray is a male if it has "claspers" which are two finger lookin fins that are on the underside of the body and on either side of the tail. I learned that at the Florida Aquarium! Same goes for sharks. I've kept a brown/tan bamboo cat shark and he was really cool! Open surface area is best for these two, In my new tank that Im establishing there will be no rocks at all and is a Fish Only tank.
Good Luck in your adventure and keep me posted on how its going and your planning stage!

Well..so far we have the sand in it and we put in 1lb of live rock per 5 gallons water which is the minimum to get any denitrification benefit. It really isn't very much. Just in each corner of the tank. The rest is open sand for the ray. We also have a baby bamboo shark that is still in his egg. Not sure when he is due to hatch. We are just going to keep these two critters.

What size tank are you going to use for your cortez ray?
