What are some fish that work well with cortez rays? I know that some species of tangs and angels will pick at the eyes. so if anyone could tell me some good tank mates that work with stingrays that would be great :) thanks

Most tangs are fine with rays, on the other hand... puffers, angels or triggers are bad with rays. Cortez rays get very big very quick but im sure you already knew that.

Yeah I dont think Im getting a ray anytime soon (I dont have a tank bid enough) But was just wondering because I want to expand my knowledge ;)
So when you say angels do you mean all angels even smaller angels? what about eels and groupers?

groupers are fine, I kept a very large brazillian horned moray with my rays and shark and they were all fine together, you just have to be carefull during feeding time since they all go crazy and the eels dont have very good eye sight and could mistake anything for food, although i never had any problems

IME Naso, yellow tang, purple tang are fine.
Acanthurus are not good tankmates.
IMO you should have a 240 as a bare minimum and a 300 is even better (30" wide).
They are incredibly active and eat a ton so you need lots of swimming room (very little live rock in the display).
But you still need a lot of filtration because they produce a lot of waste.

gallons arent the important thing as mentioned footprint is..i had around a 300 72x30x24 i beleive . With only one large cave in the middle for the eel and the rest mainly open.

No dwarf angels, some smaller non-agressive wrasses may be ok. The problem is they like to sleep in/on the sand bed and may become food for your ray.

I would think a grouper would be ok. Eels can be aggressive and bite the ray.

It is risky putting other fish in with a ray. If you try be prepared to remove the fish or the ray.

I don't have any experience with the harlequin tusk but yes the eel can get that big but its probably one of the more docile eels you can get

Over 3' is rare from what I've read. I'm about to put a Cowfish and a Tusk with my Yellow Ray. I'm a little worried about the Cow, but the Tusk should be fine.

Alright would you mind telling me if anything happens? and I keep trying to decide about a cowfish or porcupine puffer. Im not sure whitch would be better with the ray... I keep hearing stories of puffers picking at the eyes but my lfs had a cortez with a zebra moray and porcupine puffer for over 3 years... I guess it also depends on the fishes personality. Also whats the minimum tank saize for a naso tang? thanks
