I no longer have this one, but when I did, I asked for an ID and received a few responses. So I took it upon myself to name it after my son, A. Elijah... My bet is A. Scr______, starts with an S.

Here is three different pics of the same coral. I've had no luck coming up with an I.D. so any help is appreciated. With the first pic, you can see how much of the color is blocked out by 1/2" standard float glass. I shoulda got Starphire.

CAReefer. Ok, I picked Veron's brain. Until Chris comes back this maybe a thought. Of course just a guess. A. Natalensis. or A. Cytherea.

Mr. James, the only one that I could find close is A. Azurea. Its starting to grow out so perhaps its will change and can tell later but thats the closest i can get. Again, just a guess.

Leishman, still working on yours. I'm not finding anything close for yours with Veron.

Chris is in Fiji until August 1st so he will be unable to id any corals until he returns. I'm sure he'll be more than happy to help everyone out at that time.

Hey all I'm back and I'm finally caught up with my work that has been building while I was away.

So I am here to help out again with any ID questions you might have....

So pile them on and I will do my best. :)

Fliger,

1) Kinda small to really tell what this is but I believe that it might be A. prostrata.

2) From the elongated radial corallite structure and thin tapered branches I am guessing that this is A. azurea.

3) I agree with you your ID of A. tenuis.

Again sorry all that it has taken me so long to get this thread going again.

Leishman,

What an insance piece and what a crazy growth pattern!

I have seen 2 species that have growth pattern similar to this. One is A. multiacuta and the other (strangely enough) is A. austera. I have seen A. austera grow in so many different forms it's mind boggling. I have seen them as tabletops, staghorns, almost digitate, etc...

I found a growth form that is similar to your piece but not nearly the same color. Check this link:

http://www.reefermadness.us/RMD08040370.htm

I might be leaning toward A. austera as I have their incipient axial corallites change from a standard rounded shape to this crazy extended tube.

Take my guess for all its worth :)

Mr James,

I am sorry that you don't have this piece anymore it looks as though it was beginning to turn into a gorgeous coral.

I believe what you had there is A. valida,as the branches are thicker than A. azurea and the corallites are a bit smaller.

I hope this helps you out.

Chris @ RM

CAreefer,

This is definitely A. loripes. They are very easy to ID at this size as there isn't another Acro (except some deepwater species) that has one side of a branch that is bare of corallites.

Very nice piece, where do you have it located in your Reef? This species is a bit harder for folks to keep so I always try to log where someone is have success keeping these.

Wongkwp,

From what I can see between the 2 photo that you posted I believe this will grow out to be one of the Crayola Tabletops (A. plana, A. latistella, etc). This piece is quite small so my belief might change as it matures into its final structure.

Sorry I can't give you more of a concrete answer. Let me see this piece again in 8 months or so.

Chris @ RM

Clkwrk,

I love the photos that you take! It makes it so easy for me to ID your animals.

1) Echinophyllia orpheensis and this piece looks as though it is from the Solomons as they come in with the red streaks all over them. I just sold one that is almost exactly the same as the piece you have photographed, check this following link:

http://www.reefermadness.us/RMD08040004.htm

2) This is one of my favorite LPS, Platygyra verweyi. I get them in from time to time and they just glow! I am always amazed by how bright they are.

Keep em coming!

Chris @ RM

Thanks Chris ...mine looks identical to the one on your site . I was amazed that this piece sat in a lfs for a week or 2 .

The Platygyra verweyi is an awesome piece IMO I have never seen a green, blue and burgandy one . The main thing that jumped at me was the contrast between the green and blue .

BTW it is a very mean coral that sends out 100's of sweepers at night .
