does anyone see a problem in using black sand for my new tank build? i want to try something different and thought it would look cool to have the black sand and black background. any one have any pics of a tank with black sand?

I was thinking of using black sand originally. I'll probably use it on my next nano. I hear the CaribSea Tahitian Moon is pretty good.

yeah that is the sand i want to use. i plan on using randy's 3 part dosing so i am not to worried about the sand not buffering the tank like the other sand will.

I used the the tahitian moon sand in my 4 gallon below. I'll never use it again. It's such a pain to keep clean.

It looks amazing but you can never keep it that way. I actually pulled out and replaced the sand bed 3 times just to get that clean look back.

I wouldnt recommend it. It looks awesome... just not worth the upkeep... at least to me.

I had it on a larger tank and took it out after a year. Like what was mentioned earlier, it doesn't do any buffering at all, so you have to dose a lot to keep the correct levels. Also, every little piece of anything that is not black shows up on the black sand. It's like having a black car, dust, fingerprints, watermarks, etc. etc. they are show up immediately against the black.
