I don't use Elements either but I can tell you how I did it.

I created a selection based on a color range, inverted the selection and then de-saturated the image.

just fyi, a 640x480 image will print to these sizes:

300 ppi (excellent quality): 2.1" x 1.6"
200 ppi (good quality): 3.2" x 2.4"

so unless you have a larger version of that photo, i wouldn't bother printing it unless you are ok with degraded image quality

I sent the black and white pic to a artist. For someone to paint this in a 16"x20" canvas it would be 600 bucks.
Still looking to have the small b&w made into my avatar.
