Counting polyps - is it just me?

When I buy zoos or other frags for my nano, I usually buy them very small - 2 or 3 polyps sometimes. This means that I can actually keep track of them. I often find myself counting the polyps on various frags that I've added recently. Ooh - there's 4 today! Yesterday, there were only 3! How exciting.

Am I the only one?

Of course, I have some bigger pieces with 20-50 polyps on them. I'm not that obsessive...yet.

that does sound exciting. i have a 12g nano i dont have any polyps but i want some are the expensive and do you buy them on a rock already or put them on there?
im pretty new to this hobby.

Most are attached to small pieces of rock and some I buy loose and mount them myself in a crack or hole in the rock. Most every day when I get to work, something has strayed from where I put it and I have to put it back. I got some superglue recently to hold down some of those pieces when I get tired of replacing them.

As for being expensive, some are and some aren't. With a small tank, look for small pieces and you can often find some deals. The LFS might have a big rock of zoos for $50, but some pieces that broke off with a few polyps that he'll sell you for $5. Look for deals.

ahha i count my yellow polyps, tey were me first coral, 9 on the rock wheni got them, got abotu 14 now, goin on 15 its sooooooo cooooool to watch thelittle polyps develope, it only takes about a day or two to turn form a ittle bulge with a hole, to a tiny guy with teeny arm things coming off. my tank is liek addicting just to watch life form

YES!! I do the same thing. But only when I buy small frags. Typically 10 polyps or less.

About a month ago I bought some Tubs Blue Zoos with 10 polyps. Now theres 18!!!

Same deal with my Triple Reds.

Counting polyps, yup i love doing it! Its kind of like a fun game, who will have grown today? I think having a small tank adds to it too though.

i do the same thing..don't worry i think we all do it..i just add some safecracker zoo's about 2-3 weeks ago. i started with 4 now i have 6 ...they're fast.... i also count my acan too...most my sps frag i also notice them growning...i think i need alife..

I'm a counter too, with small frags. If I get them with 1-5 polyps, I'll watch them closely and see if the numbers increase. By about 14 polyps, I stop.... not that I can't count that high.

I can just try to enjoy the frag at that point.

I am a color person myself.....AHHhhh those wonderfull l.e.d. lights.....Whhhhhhwweeeeeeeeeeehhh....But seriously folk....I think I have a Zoo predator....anyone familiar????
