Couple Filtration Questions

I have my 75g on its stand ready to be filled. I'm about 90% sure that I want a SW tank. I'm gonna start out with a basic FOWLR and maybe upgrade my lighting down the road. From what I understand if I go with live rock I won't need any other filtration beside a good skimmer. Is this correct. Would 46lb of live rock be ok to start with. Is 160wts of NO light enough for live rock. Also is 2" of sand enough. I'm gonna throw a couple pounds of live sand in also. The room where the tank is stays pretty cool all year round should I put glass lids on top.

The lighting is fine for a FOWLR, and IMO 2" of sand is just fine. Don't use lids, just get heaters that will sufficiently heat the tank. I would also suggest 80-90 lbs of rock for a 75 Gallon tank. 46lbs really isn't a whole lot unless it is very porous and light rock.

What if I went with 46lbs of live rock then 40lbs-50lbs of base rock. Would that work.
Yes this would work. It will just take a little longer for the rock to populate with bacteria. People in my local club often start tanks out with 80% dry rock and 20% live rock.
