Couple of questions

Looking to get back into the fish/reef game and have a couple of questions.

1. I am considering putting the 75gal rimless tank with led lighting to the left of my tv in my living room. The pic is the view from where I sit. Is the light from the led pucks going to be annoying when watching tv? I realize I can just turn them off at times but will it be a constant annoyance? If you have a similar setup I'd love to see pics.

2. Got quote from lfs for a reef ready tank from visio. 48x18x21 rimless with center overflow and drilled. $700 . Starphire glass would be $200 extra per side. This seems a bit excessive. I'd appreciate your feedback on this price. Are lfs's in a position to negotiate on pricing? Figure I'll be spending a lot of money there.. LOL. I am in So. Orange County, .CA.

Cheers.

3. Is the starphire glass worth the extra 600 bucks? I don't want to get it together and always be wishing I got the clearer glass.

Mines near my TV but i have a canopy so I cant comment on lights disrupting my view. Some may argue the glass is worth it but mines standard aquarium glass and I have no complaints. Reef ready tanks in general are going to be more expensive but definitely worth it unless you plan to drill your own tank. I prefer reef ready due to the clean look. Mine is a 90 gal center overflow as well and looking back I think I would prefer corner overflows. The center can be somewhat in the way when it comes to aquascaping but still better than a non drilled tank IMO.

Thanks for the response Drewbe147.

As far as LFS negotiating on pricing, you can try but I would say probably not on a tank. You may be able to get them to give you a livestock credit though. Mine did when I bought my main tank, but I bought the tank, stand, sump, return pumps, lights and flow pumps at the same time as well as had them create a custom rock wall for the back.

Not just the light, but you will splash saltwater around. May not be a good idea right next to a tv. Can you swap the picture frame and your proposed tank location around?

Check out sc aquariums or glass cages. I got a 5' tank w/ starfire on the front panel from sc aquariums for $800. So you can probably do even better for a 4'. They also do custom requests. So if nothing else you may be able to show your LFS a better deal they might match.

My 2 cents OP:

I have a 75 gallon tank which I bought from a big box pet store. I think the brand is marineland. It was not reef ready. Bought an overflow kit eshopp brand for 80 bucks from amazon, then took the tank to a lfs paid them 20 bucks for two holes. Now my tank is reef ready.

About your light, it will at your eye level if not above and it will be annoying as hell. If that is the only place where you can put a tank then seriously consider a canopy.

Thanks for the inputs.. I do have other spots I can put one.. but this spot is where I would get to sit and enjoy it the most. I could build a minimalist floating canopy or similar to help shield direct view of the pucks. Cant swap positions with the painting due to the dining table.

I appreciate everyone's concern for my TV.. :-) I think the tank would be a couple feet away from the actual TV and I'd like to think I could keep the splash zone to a minimum.. LOL
