couple small GBTA concerns..

got myself a GBTA about a month ago...was about 2.5" across tentacles out...just a small clone...had decent colour and looked healthy...

the real concern i have is he has no stickiness to him at all and no real feeding response in terms of closing up...

the first week he did nothing in my tank but inflate and deflate, a painfull acclimation at best, second week he started looking better so i tried to feed him i was ripping the heads off frozen silversides and basically force feeding him by holding it at his mouth and warding off my 6line and black brittle star...

he has done a little wandering in these past weeks trying to find the sweet spot, what looks like now at the expense of one of my tricoloured acros...as he has taken up shop under the rock ledge the acro is on top of..GBTA, now inflates and reaches up around the lip of the ledge for the light...

he is now almost 4" across maybe five from tip to tip of tentacles, almost twice as big as when i got him...he now inflates his mouth waiting for food as soon as it hits the tank water, and if i hold it to his mouth he sucks it in in about 8 seconds ( a whole piece of krill) but he still has no interest in holding the food himself...

will his stickiness return? or do i have to hand feed him everytime now? as it is i feed him about every 3 or 4 days ( a whole krill or the head half of a silverside) the other day though my 10"+ black brittle star wrapped around my finger freaked me out pretty bad, LOL had no idea he was even in the neighbourhood...i almost ripped him right out of the tank...i thought it was some sort of massive worm coming out for a snack...needless to say i dont care to hold my hand in the tank to a: hold the food in place and b: ward off the fearless 6line and Starfish...

the GBTA looks pretty darn healthy to me though, nice green colour, nice round bubbles, has grown about 20 or so new tentacles as my 6line and clowns for some reason or other where ripping them off him..

also, are the GBTA inherintly evil SPS killers or will he peacefully coexist with one of my favorite arcos? i really dont want to move the acro...it is in a sweet spot..(the nem thinks so too apparently)
at first the nem was on a rock island in the sand bed, has since jumped the sand and climbed up the main rock work...little bugger..

any way help, tips, and feedback are always welcome..

tank parameters are PH 8.2, sg 1.026, temp 79-83, cal 440, ALK 10.2 dkh, mag 1500, PO4 undectectable ( API kit), NO3 unknown (test ran out havent got a new one yet, coil denitrator been setup for 3 weeks though) currently winning the battle against GHA outbreak, think it was a result of a bit of nitrate and very old bulb 2 year old 14oooK, bulb has been changed all seems good now..

As far the stickiness, with my RBTA's it seems to vary depending on the type of food I'm feeding them. If I feed the same food, say squid, for several times in a row, the anemones don't seem as responsive (sticky). On the other hand, if I vary it up--and make sure the food is fresh--then I get a better feeding response. I would suggest you try a fresh piece of scallop or shrimp, right out of the sea food dept. at the grocery store, before you even freeze it at home. Do this after you've let 3 or 4 days lapse since the last feeding. See if he fires his nematocysts for that.

how about a pic or two?? :)

i like to change up their food too, silversides / krill / mysis. the stickiness will come back, then the anemone should be able to fend off the vultures himself. i usually feed the tank first to keep everyone busy while i feed my anemones, i even give a piece of tail to the brittle star, which he greedily grabs from my hand and disappears under his rock.

your params look good ( you should have a test for NO3 done ), just keep them stable and the anemones should come around.

thanks guys...i will hit up the Zehrs on Friday and grab something a little more tasty for him...will post a pic tomorrow when the lights come on..
