I see the captive bred offering of this fish.. anyone have any experiences?

Seems the wc are hard to get eating and some say algae is important (some disagree)..

Also see a few references to sifting sand..

My tank is BB... any experiences with the captive bred version of this fish? Thanks!

i would highly recommend the sand bottom. mine mostly sifts mouths full of sand, and chomps on hair algae growing in my fuge.

he has learned over time to eat mysis shrimp and live white worms, but for the most part he is fending for himself as far as food goes.

i would not be inclined to keep one in a bare bottom set up. while you can potentially get them on to prepared food, there is no telling how long that will take, if it takes at all. on top of that, they're not very good at competing for food. they tend to be very slow, methodical eaters, and are easily chased off the food by even mild mannered fish. my orange spotted filefish are a good example of this. certainly not an aggressive species by any stretch of the imagination, but they will make it hard to impossible for my rainford's goby to get a mouthful in.

I think the captive bred ones are raised on frozen though. I just ordered one and it arrives tomorrow. I plan on quarantining in a barebottom. But he won't have any competition for food. I did assume that once he hits my DT, that he would love munching on my sand.
